“Your network and advice is of enormous value to us; they help us to realize our ambitious plans for the future. We invite you to join us for a private viewing of our collections, so that we can discuss funding and sponsoring opportunities with you!”

We actively seek your support for the digitisation of our Asian Collections so that they become available by free open access to every student, researcher, in fact to every person worldwide interested in the cultures, histories, literatures and societies of the different cultures in Asia.

The Asian Library, situated on top of Leiden University Library, is a wonderful space for researchers, students and visitors to meet, study and conduct research. The Asian Library brings together outstanding collections on South and Southeast Asia, China, Japan and both Koreas. Our Indonesian collection is the largest in the world.

The Asian Library offers not only a 150-seat reading room but also features a cinema, an indoor garden, a centre for scholars & fellows and seminar rooms. The Asian Library is indeed one of the major international centres for the study of Asia.

From Physical to Digital: we need your help!

The Asian Library has recently implemented a state-of-the-art repository infrastructure enabling us to share worldwide, free of charge and in open access, our substantial digital collections for teaching, research and enrichment.

The Asian collections we wish to digitise include the Chinese Collection, the Southeast Asian Collection, the Japanese Collection, the Korean Collection, the Kern Collection, the KIT Colonial Collection, and the KITLV collection of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies.
